The committee of the BBC Pensioners’ Association would like to thank members of the Association for their support during 2009 and to wish them a happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.

The new BBCPA website under development was made public. This will replace the existing site in the New Year.

October

The BBC Pension Scheme wins the professional pensions best pensioner communication award. In particular it was praised for its dedicated helpline; its website; its volunteer visiting scheme; Prospero (newspaper) and MyDeals for pensioners.

Geoff Jones is re-elected Pensioner Trustee.

July

Meeting with the Chairman of the BBC Pension Fund Trustees, Jeremy Peat.

May

Annual subscriptions are increased. Individuals £10. Joint membership £15. Life membership for those over eighty £50.

April

21 Annual General Meeting of the Association.

Pensions are increased by 0.9% based on the December 2008 RPI figure. The Association receives a number of letters objecting to this, as does Prospero.

March

Publication of 2009 Newsletter.

Meeting with BBC/Pension Fund management.

January

December RPI figure is published showing a rise of 0.9%.

BBCPA Key Objectives

  • To protect the fund and to ensure that pensioners' interests are fairly taken into account by the Trustees in distributing the fund.
  • To maintain a dialogue with BBC Management and BBC Pensions Trust Ltd and to ensure that they and the trustees are aware of pensioners' interests and take appropriate action to recognise these interests.
  • To maintain active contact with other similar organisations. To monitor legislation and other matters relating to occupational pensions.
